Grab a pack of popcorn and your favorite drink because we’re about to relive my weekend in a stunning H&M dress.
The last time I had a picnic with all my siblings and mom was probably 10years ago. Those were the fun part of my childhood. We lived very close to the beach and would regularly take evening walks or morning walks after our morning prayers. Every other day could be a picnic for us.
We also lived in a house with lots of space and greenery that we could just whip out our mats and food and it’s picnic o’clock.

But all these started to change the moment my oldest sibling went to uni. It was difficult to get us all in a room at the same time and when it did eventually happen, we didn’t have time to plan picnics because we’d rather make every moment count catching up on all we’ve missed.
Occasionally we’d take a walk to the beach still because it was already a family tradition but there was always someone missing.
Many years after and we’ve all started our own families, creating family traditions like this now means more to me than it ever has. I can’t believe I thought I’d never miss the beach.
I thought living there for many years meant I would be perfectly fine without it but I was wrong. The peace and serenity nature brought was like none.
I started to miss the coconut trees, the special beach wind, the smell of beach sand and watching the waves. I think I’m a little emotional thinking about how perfect that part of my life was and that’s it. You could totally be living your best life now without knowing because you’re focused on what’s to come.
The rave on picnics on Instagram this year due to the rona had me in my feelings and made me want to create some amazing memories for my family. Not forgetting that it was a good opportunity to look cute. I got the prettiest dress from H&M and got ready for my picnic.
At first I was going to just read a book in the newly discovered recreation area right in front of my house but I had created a summer picnic moodboard on my Pinterest and my partner just wanted me to recreate what has inspired me. So we did some last minute shopping and headed for the park.
THE DRESS UP
You might not believe it but this H&M dress is the only pink dress I own. I had super strong bias with the color and how it’s been strictly associated with femininity and I wasn’t going to let society force the color on me.
But really with fashion comes change. Exploring colors has made me just appreciate their beauty and overlook the society’s view.
I was very skeptical about this dress even after I got it and had thoughts of returning it but I changed my mind after styling it up. I even wrote about it here.
The poplin fabric was nothing short of perfection. The puff sleeve was totally my style and the smock trend I’ve just fallen in love with added a nice detail.
Towards the bottom of the dress, the perfect A line design meets up with a pleated flare. Having the back longer than the front area, this made up my perfect summer dress and now I want more. My cart is filled with dresses, I can’t wait to check out.
Spending hours with my little family in the most gorgeous dress eating snacks and creating memories turned out to be the best part of my weekend.
I finally got the Pinterest summer of my dreams and it was magical.
My daughter was also so happy to be outside in such a big space, she was the most excited to see dogs who strayed from their owner. My Nigerian self was definitely scared because I had been chased by a dog before.
Now I can’t wait to make more friends for myself and my baby so we could have little play dates as she’s excited to be around children her age.
The weekend doesn’t get more perfect than this.
I do hope you enjoyed this post as I loved writing it. How did your weekend go?
